Traidcraft Foundation
The objective of the Traidcraft Foundation is to relieve poverty in the developing world and, in particular, to ensure that Traidcraft remains focused on its goal of fighting poverty through trade and stays true to its Foundation Principles.
As Founder Member of our charity Traidcraft Exchange, the Foundation appoints all members of the Traidcraft Exchange Board. As holder of the Guardian Share in Traidcraft's trading company, the Foundation has a power of veto over the election of directors to the Traidcraft plc Board and can also block payment of dividends above a certain level and any changes to the Memorandum and Articles of Association. The Foundation also has the right to be consulted about Traidcraft's strategic plans, and has a particular role in ensuring the adequate representation of the views of external stakeholders in social accounting and other processes. The Traidcraft Foundation provides financial support for the Traidcraft Fellowship at St Chad's College, Durham. The Foundation Trustees  | Reg Bailey (Chair) Reg is the Chief Executive of the Mothers' Union, an international Christian organisation with over one million members in seventy countries around the world. Married, with an adult son and daughter, Reg was previously the Chief Executive of Danish Bacon Company and Del Monte Foods, having spent most of his working life in the food industry. He is a licensed Reader in the Church of England. He has been a trustee since 2001, and Chair of the Traidcraft Foundation since January 2003. |  | Margaret Masson Margaret was born and brought up in Zambia and, in between looking after two young children, teaches Post-colonial Literature at the University of Durham. She is Vice-chair of the editorial board of Anvil, an Anglican theological journal, and is married to Robert Song, lecturer in Christian Ethics in Durham. She has been involved with Traidcraft since 1995, first as a Board member (until 2002) and then as a Trustee. |  | Makonen Getu Makonen is the International Programme Director at the Christian Transformation Resource Centre at the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies, and he is our newest Trustee, appointed in 2004. Makonen has a long experience of teaching and researching in the theories and strategies of development as well as many years experience in designing, managing and implementing community development and enterprise programmes in African countries. He has been instrumental to the formation of global, regional and national CMED networks including the church. |  | Michael Northcott Michael is Reader in Christian Ethics in the University of Edinburgh and a priest in the Scottish Episcopal Church. He serves as Associate Rector at St James', Leith and he is also a Canon Theologian of Liverpool Cathedral. In the 1980s he was a USPG sponsored mission priest in West Malaysia where he was lecturer in the Seminari Theologi Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, and before that he served in the Diocese of Manchester. He speaks and writes widely on ethics and current affairs. His book Life After Debt: Christianity and Global Justice explores the ethics of international debt and trade justice. Michael is married to Jill and they have three children. |
