Note 1: The definitions used in the tables are:
- “Non-Food” (textiles, craft and similar items bought by the plc for re-sale)
- “Food” (food commodities and beverages bought by the plc either directly or through European partners, for re-sale)
- “Licensed” (fair trade purchases attributable to the sales by others of products that have Traidcraft’s brand on them, but where not all the ingredients will have been sourced through Traidcraft).
Note 2: The table and chart above indicate the value of Traidcraft’s direct purchases from developing world producers (i.e. excluding purchases of ingredients for Licensed products), and adjusts the figures to show the effect of inflation on the value of those purchases and also the equivalent value in US Dollars (the currency in which most Producers ask to be paid).
Inflation has been assumed at 3% per year, with earlier years restated in today’s money. (The decline in Licensed sales between 2003/4 and 2005 reflects the Co-op’s decision to cease using the Traidcraft brand on its fair trade wines, following the introduction of a Fairtrade mark for wine during 2004).
