Making products for Arum Dalu provides valuable work for local people, such as Ketut Budiarta, one of the chief painters.
Zenen Santana Delgado, from our supplier support team, first met Ketut when he visited our Indonesian trading partners in 2007. A return visit in October gave Zenen a chance to catch up with developments in his family life.
"In 2007 when we interviewed him, he had just got married and Ngurah gave an important financial contribution to his wedding," Zenen said. "This time, he mentioned he has recently become a father, and his family received another special gift from Ngurah to celebrate the occasion."
Ketut has been working there for almost 10 years and says the permanent position gives him security and better working conditions, plus Ngurah treats him like his family.
"He wanted to send a message to Traidcraft staff and customers," Zenen said. "A big thanks for supporting and buying the products he made with his hands. It has made a significant difference to his life and every time there is a new order he feels proud because he understands that people like his products."

Traidcraft order levels to Arum Dalu have increased slightly - providing valuable work at a time when their sales to local shops have dropped because of a decline in tourists' purchases.
