Our cards and envelopes are made from Forest Stewardship Council paper and board
All our cards and envelopes are made from FSC certified material so that we know the source and conditions that they are produced in. FSC is the only certification process that is supported by Greenpeace, WWF-UK, Friends of the Earth and the Woodland Trust.
Over 80% of the world’s ancient forests have already been lost. An area the size of a football field is currently being cut down every 2 seconds.
The Forest Stewardship Council seeks to protect local people's rights to own, use and manage their lands and resources, and ensure that they are properly paid for the use of their traditional knowledge. (Source: WWF-UK)
Our cards are ethically packed
All of our cards are packed by employed staff with decent working conditions and employment contracts, rather than homeworkers in poor conditions. This costs a little more but Traidcraft feels that this is the right thing to do.
Our cards are all printed with vegetable inks
Solvents have been linked to cancer. No solvents are used in printing our cards. Our use of vegetable inks also means that if cards go into landfill, no solvents seep into the land and waterways.
Our cards are produced in the UK
Our paper mill conforms to European emission regulations, unlike those in Asia where emissions have serious impact on the local population. Our cards travel less and support several UK traditional industries, such as print and packing.
We are continually striving to improve
We are currently testing the use of environmental corn-based bags for our cards. If successful, these will be fully biodegradable and will reduce our environmental impact even further.
