Wine tasting notes

Guidance on the various flavours and aromas of Traidcraft fair trade wine.

Wine glasses in a vineyard

Chilean:

Lautaro Merlot Reserve

This is a top quality wine from our newest producer in Chile which is deep red in colour with violet tints. It has a heady aroma and is full of red and black fruit flavours, well balanced with woodiness. Goes well with roast meats and cheese.

Lautaro Sauvignon Blanc

This is a beautiful pale yellow wine with delicate shades of colour and an intense floral and herbaceous aroma. On the palate it displays all the classic flavours of gooseberries, grapefruit and apple and it is particularly brilliant with seafood.

Las Lomas Late Harvest Riesling

Traidcraft’s first dessert wine also comes from Las Lomas and is luscious ending to any meal. A real experience for the nose and palate it is filled with apricot, orange blossom and toasted almond flavours, infused with honey and vanilla and then cleverly tempered with just the right dose of acidity.

Las Lomas “Equality” Cabernet Sauvignon Rose

A delightful strawberry and cream aroma leaps from this wonderful pink wine, complementing the refreshing berry fruit flavours that will be appreciated by all Rose lovers.

Argentinian:

La Riojana Valdevina Malbec

Traditionally quite a heavy wine this is warming and spicy with massive fruit intensity and touches of liquorice and fennel. This wine is good drunk young but will age well too and partners particularly well with red meats.

La Riojana Valdevina Torrontes

This delightful organic wine comes from selected vineyards in La Rioja, and is the uniquely flavoured Torrontes for which Argentina is famed. Best served young and well-chilled, this subtly floral wine is wonderfully aromatic on the nose and packed with juicy fruit flavours. It has a natural crisp acidity, and the long finish is the perfect accompaniment to a fresh salad or creamy pasta dish. It also matches well with mildly spiced ethnic foods.
