CIPAC’s coffee

Traidcraft has been working with CIPAC for many years now. Although they originally were a cooperative of honey producers, we helped them to diversify into the production of coffee.

We supported them as they invested in the right equipment and gave them a route to market for their new product. Now CIPAC provide the coffee beans for Traidcraft’s decaff range.

During the last coffee harvest however, CIPAC were affected with a serious problem: coffee rust, a fungus which attacks the leaf of the plant. More than 20% of the coffee bushes were lost to the disease; and another 20% were left badly damaged.

We’re now working to help CIPAC address this problem through the Supporting Social Enterprises programme. Plans include the replanting of lost coffee plants, replacing them with stronger Arabica coffee varieties.
