More Than Gold

Traidcraft is delighted to be one of the sponsors of More Than Gold. Churches in the UK have a once in a lifetime opportunity thanks to the 2012 Games being awarded to London. More Than Gold exists to help churches seize the moment.

Churches are playing their part in programs of outreach, hospitality and service.

Traidcraft is particularly involved in the Torch Relay, when the olympic flame will travel around the UK for 70 days in the run up to the opening ceremony, sparking local celebrations as it goes.

Why is Traidcraft involved?

Traidcraft was established as a Christian response to poverty and is a dedicated fair trade organisation that is passionate about bringing justice to the poor... As part of their involvement in the games, churches are also being called on to practically demonstrate their heart for social justice. More Than Gold are focussing on the themes of i)Fair Trade ii) Climate Change iii) Human Trafficking and prostitution iv) Homelessness and v) Peace.

What is Fair Trade?

The world will come together for the 2012 Games but in international trade, not everyone competes on a level playing field.

Fair trade seeks to transform the lives of poor producers in the developing world by enabling them to use their skills and resources to trade their way out of poverty.

It seeks to challenge injustices in trading structures and practices that so often lead to the exploitation and marginalisation of poor people.

Fairtrade is a way to come together in partnership with those on the margins of society, to bring justice and lasting transformation.

Traidcraft seeks to demonstrate God's heart for the poor and respond to the invitation to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God.

The 2012 Games organisers have made huge commitments to Fairtrade at the main venues and events. Let's make sure the churches don't let the side down! Make sure your church's events are Fairtrade.
