US changing its tune on cotton subsidies?
After receiving a petition signed by thousands of Traidcraft, Fairtrade Foundation and People Tree supporters (and hand delivered to the US Embassy by Father Christmas), US Ambassador Louis Susman has responded to concerns about the impact of US cotton subsidies on poor farmers around the world.

The eighth ministerial of the World Trade Organisation ended on 17 December with representatives desperately affirming the relevance of the body, while the negotiations delivered almost nothing for the world’s poorest countries.

Foreign Office backs calls for cotton justice
In a reply to emails sent by Traidcraft campaigners, the Foreign Office has stated that ‘the issue of cotton subsidies is very high on this Government’s agenda’.

Young Christians and Muslims call for trade justice
On 8th June, 30 young British Christians and Muslims met at Lambeth Palace to agree a statement calling on the UK government to take the lead in ending the EU’s distorting cotton subsidies which prevent more than ten million African farmers from trading fairly, forcing them into poverty.
