Campaigners target raw materials conference

The conference, with business representatives and EU policy-makers in attendance, coincided with the release of the latest communication on raw materials from the European Commission. This updates the EU’s ‘Raw Materials Initiative’ launched in 2008, which made public its intentions to use trade and investment agreements to secure cheap access to raw materials for European businesses.

Dressed up as ‘critical’ raw materials criticising EU raw materials policy protestors handed out flyers to people attending the conference. This caused quite a stir and helped draw attention to the need to put a responsible and sustainable approach to raw materials at the heart of EU trade and investment policy.
