We need to get Gordon Brown's attention now.

With only weeks to go until the deadline, the European Union (EU) is putting intense pressure on 76 poor countries to sign Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) - free trade deals that pose serious risks to jobs, livelihoods, economies and the environment.

In the past few weeks, EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson has admitted that it will be impossible to sign comprehensive EPAs by the end of the year. Tens of thousands of people in developing countries and Europe are opposed to the deals. But Mandelson is still pushing for basic deals which will harm poor countries and lock them into signing their rights away under a full agreement by the end of 2008.

Step up, Gordon!

Your campaigning has already made huge gains. Just a few months ago the EU was adamant it would not alter its position and now they have substantially climbed down. It’s vital we keep up the pressure and push the EU to go even further.

Gordon Brown has committed himself to supporting development, particularly to helping African people. He could make a big difference by stepping up and demanding more time to secure deals that will help address poverty in a sustainable way. But we need your help to make sure EPAs are top of his agenda.

Please sign this petition and ask Gordon Brown to make trade work for some of the world’s poorest people.
