What Traidcraft does

We take our Christian commitment seriously and Jesus' command to "go the extra mile" lies at the heart of our approach to what we do and how we do it.

Parise band in action in church at Kibena, TanzaniaAs a founder member of the Fairtrade Foundation, we fully support the criteria which underpin the Fairtrade Mark but we strive to go further:

  • We choose to work with poor and small-scale producer groups
  • We work in partnership with our producers, committing to long-term relationships and maintaining in regular contact
  • We invest in the development of producers to help them build professional, sustainable businesses
  • We offer the widest range of fair trade products in the UK
  • We pioneer new approaches to fair trade
  • We lobby governments in the fight for trade justice
  • We help producers in the struggle to overcome and oppose unfair trade agreements
  • We try to demonstrate ethical business practices and challenge others to do the same

Many of the producers we work with are also Christian and share our commitment to working out the Gospel in ways which bring benefit to their families and their communities.

Here are two stories – from among many:
Adriano's story
Adriano's story
For tea plucker Adriano Kalili, the fair wage he receives means he has been able to build a three-bedroom house for his wife, Alizeta, and their three children – and the Fairtrade premium has helped to provide the roof.

Siji's story
Siji's story
For Siji Jose, selling her tea on Fairtrade terms through the Sahyadri Farmers Consortium helps her to get a good price for the tea, which means she can send her children to school and put food on the family table.
