Gifts for Life: India

Although India has one of the world's fastest growing economies, 29% of the population live in poverty. Traidcraft has been working in India for over 25 years to bring opportunity and dignity to the lives of hundreds of thousands of poor producers. Your gift could make a real difference.

Cotton producers go organic

Durgamma picture

The decline of cotton production has forced poor people in parts of India to either migrate to find alternative work or to face a dramatic drop in living standards. The downward spiral has been caused by many factors but one common denominator is the over-use of pesticides. Toxins have penetrated the soil, making huge swathes of land infertile.

Traidcraft helps poor cotton farmers like Durgamma by training them in organic production methods. By producing natural fertilizers and pesticides, Durgamma has improved her family’s income, the environment in which she works and the future of cotton faming in their region.

Just £50 from you could help us improve the long-term prospects of other cotton farmers in India. Today and for generations to come.

A healthier future

Drying textiles

Millions of people across India rely on producing textiles to earn a living. They work long hours for low pay and often suffer ill-health from poor working conditions and chemicals used in the manufacturing process.

In Rajastan, India, we are working with small textile businesses to ensure sustainable production through eco-friendly practices, reducing water wastage and promoting organic textiles. Through a range of approaches we aim to address poor pay for textile workers, inadequate working conditions and preservation of the environment through eco-friendly working practices.

By giving £15 you can help promote a healthier future for textile workers in India.
