Gifts for Life: Tanzania
Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in Africa, and is ranked 159th on the human development index out of 177 countries in the world. Our project supporting beekeepers by improving market access for their honey must continue to grow if we are to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of the poor.
Beekeeping is a fantastic opportunity for poor people to generate income, as it needs no land and has low start-up costs. Henry Mugao has 300 log hives and has been beekeeping all his life. The training workshop organised by Traidcraft and local project partners made a huge difference to his business: “The workshop was to help us to improve the quality of the honey; with good honey, we get a good price and improve our lives because our honey is in demand.” £300 could pay for another training workshop to help more beekeepers like Henry improve their honey and get a better price at market. ref 58174
