Overseas programmes

Traidcraft Exchange implements trade-related development projects in South Asia (India and Bangladesh) and East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda). Our projects are helping thousands of poor people build strong, secure futures for themselves and their families.

Tea farmers in Kenya and jute farmers in Bangladesh

We have overseas offices in Nairobi (Kenya), Hyderabad (India) and Dhaka (Bangladesh), and deliver all our projects in partnership with local organisations. This builds local capacity, ensures interventions are appropriate to the local context, and increases the long-term sustainability of project impacts.

Many of our projects have an environmental aspect, helping producers to cope better with climate change or make their production processes more eco-friendly. This is something we plan to put greater emphasis on in the development of new projects, as well as promoting the interests of women as important drivers of development.

We also want to ensure the people we aim to help through our projects don’t just increase their incomes, but also flourish as individuals and communities. For us this means going beyond the material aspects of poverty – also helping people to develop their self-worth, to feel more confident and valued, and to have hope for the future.
