My name is Nelie Kok and I am involved with Eksteenskuil Agricultural Co-operative. We are a group of farmers producing raisins for the fair trade market.
Working with Traidcraft has been a pleasure since Traidcraft is not only interested in the product as such, but they are also interested in the general wellbeing of the society and the moral fibre of the society. That’s why they have been supporting the co-op and we are very grateful for what they have done up to here.
The ways in which Traidcraft has supported us – they are so many I can’t name all of it but I’ll mention a few. For instance, they have been assisting us in order to get the co-op started, they are constantly providing us to help us with training the membership in order to build capacity and whenever we are in dire straits, we can call on Traidcraft and we can be sure that they are more than obliged to assist in any which way they can.
The Fairtrade premium has come in handy in order to assist farmers during pruning and also harvesting in that we, as management, could make small loans available to them. But that is only one aspect of the premium. Further, the premium has extended and also been to the benefit of the broader community where we are supporting schools, where we are supporting the broader community and in that way the premium has been of very great significance to the community.
I would like to urge Traidcraft supporters to keep on supporting Traidcraft since in that way it ultimately leads to Traidcraft purchasing our product and therefore creating opportunities for our farmers and also for the betterment of the livelihood of our community, and therefore I would like to urge them very earnestly to keep on supporting Traidcraft.
“Thank you very much” from the school children at Klip Island primary school.
