Southern India Tea Tour

This unique tour includes visits to a variety of projects and producers, where we hear from people about the issues facing the Indian tea industry that provides employment for a vast number of people.

Starting in the city of Chennai we take a train into the Nilgiri Hills, an area famous for its tea. We spend time enjoying Kerela’s coastal backwaters and then return to Chennai from where we visit the famous shore temple at Mahabalipuram before our journey home.

Traidcraft's work in the tea industry

Traidcraft is currently working with the Centre for Education and Communication on a project aimed at addressing the issues behind the crisis facing tea workers as tea prices fall and estates close.

The project seeks to organise and empower smallholder growers to realise fairer terms of trade within the industry through domestic market assessment, business support, and advocacy aimed at improved legislation in the industry.
