Greenbelt 2008

Create a stir! This was Traidcraft's challenge to this year’s festival-goers at Greenbelt 2008.

And they did! Whether it was decorating a spoon and signing a campaign postcard or taking the fair trade message back to their schools, colleges and workplaces, Greenbelters met the challenge with their usual enthusiasm and creativity - despite the mud.

Many Greenbelt regulars are already dedicated Traidcraft supporters and it's wonderful for Traidcraft staff to meet and chat with them at Greenbelt each year.

It's also a great opportunity for others to get involved for the first time, signing a campaign postcard, agreeing to convert their workplace to fair trade or enjoying one of Traidcraft's popular wine tastings or pub quizzes which took place during the weekend.

Ian was back to sample the wine for the third year running, and told everyone about how he had successfully run wine tastings at his own church, having enjoyed the Greenbelt event so much in previous years.

At the Traidcraft stall, next to Pru's café in G-Source, hundreds of festival-goers decorated beech-wood spoons to "create a stir" for trade justice. Campaigners also signed postcards in support of our latest supermarket campaign and tried their hand at our quiz for the chance to win a hamper of fair trade goodies!

Traidcraft's ethical debate panel drew crowds to hear Joel Edwards (Evangelical Alliance), Stephen Timms (Minister for Employment), David Howlett (DFID), Malcolm Duncan (Faithworks) and Paul Chandler (Traidcraft) discuss "How do you shop for development?".

"This year's Greenbelt was our best yet since returning in 2006," said Jane Riley, who heads the Traidcraft team at Greenbelt. "The buzz around the Traidcraft stall was wonderful and it was brilliant to see so many Greenbelters getting stuck in to support Traidcraft and promote fair trade in their local communities."
