Craft Aid dedicates business excellence award to Traidcraft

Fair trade supplier Craft Aid has been named as the top small business in Mauritius – and has dedicated its win to Traidcraft.

The Mauritian government named Craft Aid as the best company in the Small Enterprise category in the Mauritius Business Excellence Awards 2010.

Gaby Kamudu, Managing Director of Craft Aid, was at the prize-giving ceremony in Balaclava, Mauritius to collect the award.

Gaby said: "I would like to dedicate this award to Traidcraft, who was our very first customer for packaging sugar and all the help and advices and coaching provided by Traidcraft in making us become stronger and stronger and be able to supply other customers. The award is a reward for all the efforts Craft Aid has been making in the way of improvement, and investment in human beings as well as in equipment and infrastructure."

Craft Aid was founded in 1982 with the main aim of providing paid employment for disabled people and helping in their rehabilitation. As well as sugar packing, there are departments at Craft Aid for making pressed flower cards and hand screen-printed fair trade T-shirts.
