Millions of Africans face food shortage
The worst drought for 60 years in east Africa is leading to a humanitarian crisis threatening millions of people in the developing world.
7 July 2011
The drought has killed cattle, withered crops and led to significant rises in the cost of food and forced thousands of people to leave their homes and seek help at refugee camps.
Traidcraft is working in east Africa, and although some of these areas are not yet at crisis point, they are at significant risk of severe food shortages.
The developing problem underlines the vital importance of the work Traidcraft is doing alongside Christian Aid with producers in east Africa to enable them to cope with the effects of climate change.
As a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee, Christian Aid is supporting an urgent appeal to help people across the Horn of Africa who are facing severe malnutrition.
Traidcraft will continue to monitor the situation closely and offer any support it can to its partners working in the affected areas.
