Fair trade cards at M&S
A new range of fair trade cards made by Traidcraft producers is now available from Marks and Spencer stores.
30 June 2009

The 11 cards are priced at £3.00. Following the success of previous ranges, which were stocked in the top 40 stores, the new range is now available in all Marks and Spencer stores.
The cards are produced by craftspeople at Swajan in Bangladesh and SHAPII in the Philippines.

Loreta Rafisura, who works for SHAPII, says that selling to Marks and Spencer is very exciting:
"Going mainstream is a big challenge but when Traidcraft sounded us on a serious enquiry from M&S we rejoiced! M&S are equated with class, quality and taste… We almost always get a second look every time somebody knows we are doing orders for M&S!
"The transformation for us from supplying fair trade companies to supplying mainstream companies has not been easy. There are a few adjustments we had to make. We enlarged our production area and facilities to get the higher quality demanded.
"Also we are noticing a shift away from the pressed flower designs that we had been doing for 20 years. So, we go more and more to source newer designs and we innovate more to produce newer looks."
If you cannot find the cards in your M&S store, please ask a member of staff who will be able to help you.
