For the past 15 years Apicoop, a Chilean bee-keeping co-operative, has sold much of its honey to Traidcraft, the Christian-based fair trade organisation.
Now, helped by a grant from Traidcraft, Apicoop is branching out into growing blueberries – and Traidcraft has launched a new Blueberry Geobar to help create a market for the fruit.
“We felt that was a great story for this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight with its slogan: Change Today – Choose Fairtrade,” said Traidcraft Church Relations Manager Peter Collins.
“The fair trade premium is helping the members of Apicoop change not just their today but their tomorrow as well. With support from churchgoers in the UK we can help more producers change their tomorrows too.”
The resources – a worship booklet containing the blueberry story, sermon notes, prayers, reflections, children’s talk and activities; a DVD featuring a film about the blueberry project; and a CD containing a PowerPoint presentation and other resources – are free and have been produced in time to help churches celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight (Feb 25 – March 9).
They are available from January 18 and can be ordered from www.traidcraftshop.co.uk or by calling 0845 330 8900.
The booklet only can be downloaded now, as a PDF, from www.traidcraft.org/churchresources
