A different kind of Christmas advert

November 20, 2015

The annual Christmas advert competition between the UK’s biggest retailers must be a little bit tiring for those involved. Thousands of hours, millions of pounds and a whole heap of creative energy go into making these big-budget, warm-hearted ads.

And at the end of all that, the pressure must be unbearable… what if people don’t like your story? What if this Christmas everyone just loses interest?

Well this year at Traidcraft, we thought about what it might be like to make a stress-free Christmas advert. Instead of seven million pounds we would spend less than seven hundred; instead of hiring professional actors we would rely on members of the Traidcraft family – producers, staff and supporters.

And sure, it wouldn’t be as polished as those of the big retailers - but it would capture the heart of what Traidcraft does. It would showcase the real lives that benefit every time you buy from Traidcraft.

We set out to make a different kind of Christmas advert – small on budget, but big on heart.

Did we succeed? Well that’s up to you…
